Newbury Park is a community located mostly within the western portion of the city of Thousand Oaks in Ventura County, California. Newbury Park along with Thousand Oaks proper have numerous times ranked among the safest communities in the United States. Newbury and his wife Fannie moved to California from Michigan for health reasons in and he became the first postmaster in the Conejo Valley in The post office was near their house which was located at the current location of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. However some neighborhoods have fallen behind. The sprawling and newer Dos Vientos community is the largest planned community in the Conejo Valley and is home to many of the areas Amgen employees.
It has 17 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools. Most schools are very good to excellent, but with 17 elementary schools you can imagine that scores range depending on the neighborhood. The Newbury Park schools are excellent too, but not all. Many of the communities lack Homeowner Associations which is lighter on the wallet but can lead to tired looking neighborhoods.
